Yoga class descriptions
I) Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga – meditation in motion with the focus on the breath
A traditional form of practicing yoga that consists of a series of physical positions interconnected by specific transitions while maintaining a continuous flow of inhalation and exhalation. Every movement is driven by the breath, which is the guiding thread and the center of the practice. Sequences of asanas are taught one by one, always in the same sequence, with the aim of gradually detoxifying the body and stimulating and calming the nervous system, which results in the elimination of toxins, flexibility, strength, better circulation and digestive fire, strengthened immunity, steady concentration and a calmer mind.
At the Mayurveda Yoga Center we offer 2 programs for learning the Ashtanga Vinyasa system:
- Ashtanga Mysore – individual approach in a group – from beginners to more experienced practitioners. Everyone exercises for themselves, at their own pace, with the assistance of the teacher. You come and go from the class when it suits you, within the set times
- Ashtanga Vinyasa – a guided class of traditional Ashtanga vinyasa yoga suitable for everyone
II) Hatha Vinyasa & Pranayama
A sequence of static positions and physical movements to strengthen and stretch the musculature with the aim of releasing tension, improving flexibility and maximizing the flow of energy. Systematic cleansing of body and mind, preparation for longer and comfortable sitting in more “advanced” yogic practices, such as pranayama and meditation. The classes are intended for everyone, and especially for those who are looking for a calmer, gentler but deeper form of practice, with more static and lying positions. The classes consist of kriya (preparation for pranayama), pranayama (breathing technique), a set of different asanas that follow ayurvedic principles (seasons, constitution of the participants) and shavasana (position of release and relaxation). The class ends with a short meditation.
III) Pranayama – yogic breathing techniques
Yogic technique of mastering the life force and awakening vital energy. A series of breathing techniques in sitting positions, between which we relax in a lying position. It offers many benefits, from physical, mental/emotional to “spiritual” ones – a stepping stone to meditation. On the physical level, pranayama directly affects various systems in the body, especially the nervous system, more specifically the parasympathetic system, which is responsible for relaxation. Practicing pranayama is not only working with the respiratory and nervous system for the purpose of health, but also the possibility of coming into contact with the life force that goes beyond the fluctuations of the mind and senses, thus making us aware of the universal consciousness in the (seemingly) individual one, which is the essence of Yoga.
IV) Yoga Nidra – a meditative relaxation technique in a lying position (soon)
Yoga Nidra is a technique of complete relaxation and release of physical, mental and emotional patterns. During Yoga Nidra, it seems that we are sleeping, but throughout the process we maintain awareness and clear the accumulated tension in the body-mind complex. Only when we release tension can we create space to return to balance – anything related to physical health, letting go of mental patterns, habits we want to change or emotions we want to release. The ultimate outcome of Yoga Nidra is the experience of Yoga – transcending identification with the waves of consciousness, the experience of being universal consciousness and simultaneous united with everything. In religious terms, this experience is called liberation or realization of the divine.
V) Self-Knowledge Meditation (& good company) (soon)
You can lie down or sit during these meditations. Participants listen to a guided self-enquiry meditation that alternates with longer or shorter stages of silence with the aim of independent contemplation and exploration of their own essential nature. In this research, there is no interest in perfecting a particular technique or understanding the content of the experience. The mind turns in the opposite direction – the direction without the object – towards the subject of experience, towards the knower, not towards what we know. It is about deep inner listening with an open mind and heart through the practitioner’s sincere interest in understanding and living this knowing in everyday life. After the meditation, there is a space for questions and answers.
VI) Private classes and groups (individual, for family, friends, business groups)
Private yoga classes are adapted to everyone, regardless of knowledge and experience, at times and at a location that suits you. They can consist of several elements, depending on the needs and wishes of the individual. Read more…
